This session will discuss the components to successful governance practices in improving quality of care. The presenter will describe some of the necessary hard components to governance such as national strategies and policies, but also the integral soft components such as leadership support, developing a culture for improvement and creating strong linkages throughout the system. The session will give real examples of countries who have hard governance components, but have not successfully operationalized these. It will explain why a national quality improvement strategy and, or policy is not the key to improving quality of care, and why this is the case. The session will end with Q&A.
