The Quality of Care Network organized a workshop on 11-14 December, 2017, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for countries who are leading the Network to share what they have learned so far in implementing their quality of care strategies, discuss what and how to measure progress and pinpoint areas that require support.
Ten months after the Network’s launch, representatives from the first Network countries – Bangladesh, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda – joined by Kenya and Sierra Leone, shared their progress on introducing a national quality of care strategy in learning districts and facilities, establishing/strengthening quality of care management and response systems, and setting up systems to support the improvement of quality of care throughout – from sustaining clinical skills, to optimising the use of resources, to motivating staff and equipping health workers to deliver respectful care.
The meeting brought together experts form each country working on coordination, implementation and monitoring of quality of care activities, representatives from learning districts, and partners supporting these efforts, and resulted in practical recommendations to accelerate the implementation of quality improvement for maternal and newborn health in 2018.
